Mersen: Growth Driven by Advanced Materials and Electrification

Mersen is a global leader in electrical power management and advanced materials, providing critical solutions for industries such as aerospace, rail transportation, electric vehicles, and chemicals. The company has pursued a growth strategy in 2024, focusing on electrification and silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors, both fast-growing markets.
H1 2024 Financial Results
For the first half of 2024, Mersen reported record sales of €624 million, with organic growth of 4.9% compared to 2023. This growth was largely driven by the increasing demand in the semiconductor and electric vehicle sectors, as well as improved pricing. The advanced materials segment saw notable growth of 7%, supported by demand in SiC semiconductors and transportation markets.
However, despite this growth, net income decreased to €38.9 million, down from €43.9 million in 2023, mainly due to non-recurring costs related to acquisitions and optimization measures. EBITDA rose by nearly 5%, reaching €105.5 million, with a 16.9% margin, up from the previous year.
Strategic Expansion and Acquisitions
Mersen has expanded its presence in the United States with the acquisition of Graphite Machining Inc. (GMI) in July 2024, a company specializing in graphite purification and machining. This acquisition, valued at $50 million, is expected to add approximately $40 million to Mersen's annual revenue. This is part of Mersen’s long-term strategy to grow its capabilities in the energy and advanced materials sectors.
Outlook and Challenges
Despite economic uncertainty and a slowdown in renewable energy markets, particularly in solar, Mersen continues to focus on high-growth sectors such as aerospace and electric vehicles. The company’s ability to optimize costs and improve productivity while investing in new capacities is expected to support medium-term growth. Mersen is maintaining its organic growth target of 5% for the full year 2024.
